The Fatima Bint Mohamed Bin Zayed (FBMI) initiative together with the Dubai Festival City has unveiled the largest yarn ball (with diameter of 3meters) assembled in the region.
The ball of yarn is hand-crafted out of 100% indigenous wool, hand-spun by female weavers, and dyed with natural vegetable dyes in Afghanistan.
The exhibit will support Artists for Change, a new program me launched by FBMI in collaboration with UAE artists and underprivileged artisans in Afghanistan.
The woven FBMI carpets, which have been sent as gifts to renowned leaders such as the Pope, Barack Obama and Bill Gates will be exhibited and available for sale at the newly expanded Dubai Festival City.
All proceeds of the FBMI carpet sales will go to FBMI female weavers in the form of salary, access to health and compulsory education for their children.
The exhibition will run from May 21 to June 16.
