The cards, “Nol” which means fare in Arabic is an electronic ticketing card that was released in for all modes of public transport in Dubai services in August 2009.
According to the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), Nol cards can now be used for retail purchases at 1,000 retail outlets across Dubai.
Users can make purchases up to the following:
Dhs5,000 using theblue Nol cards
Dhs1,000silverandgold Nol cards
The facility has already been available at Zoom convenience stores at several metro and petrol stations since April this year. Now even, cards can be used on Subway and other food shops.
The initiative is in line with the smart city plan, which aims to make Dubai one of the world’s smartest cities by providing the latest technologies, making it easier for people to benefit from a range of services, according to a transport official.
By the end of this year, the payment system is expected to be available at around 5,000 retailers.
